Sharp Mx 5111n Driver For Mac

If the Sharp uses the SMB protocol for network scanning, then Apple made a change to the SMB protocol used back with OS X 10.7 and this change stopped many network copiers from being able to scan to a shared folder on the Mac. So I would check with Sharp if they have a firmware update for the copier to make it compatible with OS X 10.7 and later.

Open the Print and Scan menu, highlight the Sharp and click Options & Supplies. Move to the Driver tab, tell the driver which options your machine has by using the drop down menus. As a workaround you could use the FTP protocol instead of SMB. This is still functioning on OS X 10.9 although you need to enable it via Terminal or use a 3rd party utility to enable it. If you would like to try this workaround, then check that the MX2310 supports the FTP protocol for network scanning. If it does, then reply and I will provide some instruction.

Hi all,

We have a Sharp MX-2610N and linking to one of the other questions that was very helpful 'Sharp MX-2614n - 10.11 drivers - unable to print'it would seem that we have a 'crippled' sharp printer that doesn't allow Postscript Driver Printing, as such we are limping by with B&W. I cannot seem to find the MX-PK11 add on and our printer is no longer supported (we own it and its at our risk now) as such it would appear even if we did pay the premium it then needs an authorised sharp dealer to register it for the unique code.

My question was that if we bought an airport express for example to allow AirPrint would this allow colour printing? I assume not given its that printers software preventing this but I thought it would be worth an ask?

Failing this given that the previous thread was some time ago, is there any other solution to allow colour printing from a Mac to one of these printers? We do have some windows PC's so could we share a printer through them instead etc?
